Proper set up for benching can mean the difference from getting that world record bench press, and missing your old PR. Here is what I think are the five most important aspects of proper bench set up.

Foot placement - A lot of people don’t realize that almost your whole body comes into play when benching, including your feet and legs. You want to have a very sturdy base so your feet need to be placed firmly onto the ground. I pull my feet back enough so that my heels cannot touch the ground. Then when I am benching I try to push my heels into the ground sending that energy from my feet to my arms.

Arched Back - An arched back makes the lift easier by making the range of motion(ROM) less. You want to arch your lower back as much as possible but make sure your butt stays on the bench. Having an arched back also leads into my next pointer of how your upper back should be set up.

Tight Upper Back - When you are benching you want a strong firm base starting at your feet so once we transfer the energy from your feet we don’t want to lose it. A tight upper back is key to good benching form. I try to pinch my shoulder blades together as much as I can when I bench. This creates a strong firm base for holding those heavy weights.

Squeeze the Bar - You want to have “White knuckles” when benching. Meaning that you should be squeezing the bar as hard as you can and your knuckles should be white. This helps to activate all the muscles in your arms.

Breathing - Finally how you breathe when benching is very important. once you unrack the bar you want to take a huge breathe in. This breathe should be all in your chest and not in your stomach, you want to see your chest puff up as your take your breathe. Don’t release your air until you have pressed the weigth back up otherwise it will cause your body to become loose and weak and you’ll miss your lift.

Now putting it all together. First set up with feet firmly in the floor, back arched, and shoulder blades pinched together. Unrack the bar and take a huge breathe into your chest. Bring the bar down to your chest and as soon as it hits your chest your going to want to drive your feet into the floor and squeeze your butt, pushing the bar back into the air.

Thats a pretty big over view of the bench press. If you didn’t use any of these techniques before I would suggest starting with just one and working on it until you have it down. Then start to add in another. Hope you guys liked it, leave comments and feel free to ask questions.

Bench Press Update

After being at school for about 2 months now last week I re-tested my max bench press. I had been mostly focusing on bench and deadlifting so far. My bench went up 10lbs which I am very satisfied about and I haven’t tested my deadlift yet but I think that is going to be up at least 25lbs.

I am also planning on doing my first competititon in May for deadlifting. Haven’t figured out how I am going to train for it yet but I will be sure to keep you updated. If anyone has any tips feel free to share.

Increasing bench press anyone?

Hey guys summer is now over so I’m starting a new workout routine. My goal is to increase my bench press by 15lbs, squat by 40lbs(haven’t squatted to much lately), and my deadlift up 30lbs by Christmas time. I think they are all very reasonable numbers that I can obtain. Not going to focus on getting my world record bench press too much this fall. Let me know if you guys find out some good new workouts or programs. Keep in touch!

World Record Bench Press – My bench press journey

This is a review of critical bench for the official website click here

My bench press journey started years ago when I was in high school and first started to workout. I’m sure my story is very similar to all of yours that’s why I decided to share it with you. At the gym I would try and copy all the huge guys and nothing would work, I would also take workouts out of magazines and see no progress after a few weeks and give up. For the next couple years of high school then through college I would do the same thing. My bench press as well as other lifts would go up a little or stay the same. I wanted some real results! One day I searched world record bench press to see what it was(no where near my bench press that’s for sure). I decided I wanted to get on a serious bench press program.

I did my research online and saw lots of different workout programs and benching programs. I first decided I wanted just a bench program because it was the weakest of all my lifts. Plus who doesn’t ask “how much do you bench?” The program I decided to purchase was called Critical Bench. Its an amazing program that not only teaches proper technique but gives a solid bench press program that gives results! In just 10 weeks my bench went up over 35 lbs! I would have to say this is one of the best products I have ever purchased and I am 100% satisfied with it. I also lost 8lbs of body fat! Can it take you to the world record bench press? Getting stronger, looking better, and increasing bench press

Although increasing my bench press was my primary goal I also wanted to get overall stronger and get that coveted “beach body”. With the workout program I followed, Critical bench, it helped me to achieve my other goals as well just to name one after finishing the program I was able to do 20 pull ups! Which is up 8 from my previous record. This bench press workout program may not be for everyone but it worked amazing for me.

I wish I had the world record bench press

When I searched for the world record bench press it was a ridiculous amount(much much more than my bench press). I wondered what kind of bench press program the world record holder uses, and if there is one that I could find on the internet. I stumbled on Critical bench and after looking over other programs as well as reviews it was definitely the best bench press program available. Click here for critical bench
